EUROPE'S WAY TO THE WORLD SUMMIT

ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

JUNE 12-14, GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN

 

I samband med EU-toppmötet i Göteborg i juni 2001 planerar Miljöförbundet Jordens Vänner (MJV) tillsammans med Friends of the Earth (FoE) Europe och Heinrich Böll Foundation att anordna en 2,5-dagars internationell konferens 'Sustainability and Solidarity: Europe's way to the World Summit on Sustainable Development'.

 

Konferensen är en del av ett mer omfattande arbete inom Friends of the Earth (FoE) inför FN's "World Summit on Sustainable Development" 2002.

 

Till konferensen kommer miljöaktiva från Jordens Vänners grupper i hela världen och många andra miljö- och solidaritetsrörelser. Här kan du möta de som kämpar mot dammar i Indien, för ett jordbruk utan GMO i Latinamerika, de som håller koll på multinationella företag, de som stoppar kärnavfallståg, de som bedriver lobbying i Bryssel... Vi har också bjudit in många kända politiker för att utmana dem på debatt om framtiden. Det hela är en första uppladdning inför den stora miljökonferens som hålls i Sydafrika tio år efter Rio-konferensen.

 

Konferensen inleds på kvällen den 12 juni och följs av två heldagar. Första heldagen kommer att ägnas åt strategiutveckling inom folkrörelser, samt utvecklande av kampanjer. Andra dagen kommer politiker på hög nivå att inbjudas för att diskutera med folkrörelser från Nord och Syd, med fokus på möjligheterna för europeiska regeringar och EU att förbättra främjandet av global uthållighet och rättvisa.
